SMS brings accident gawkers

Mobile phones are being used to attract large crowds of curious onlookers to emergencies. Police believe young drivers are texting their friends the details of road smashes at all times of the day and night.
"It happens everywhere particularly when people store all their mates' details in their phones and do a bulk mailout,"
Chief Inspector John Robinson said. The texting then resulted in an influx of onlookers at emergency situations, he said. Chief Inspector Robinson said anecdotal evidence suggested the problem was as prevalent across the state."Convergence at any emergency is an issue,"
He said."Here, the danger particularly is on the Princes highway. "People turning up can block roads and certainly cars slowing down to a crawl can cause issues."
