Quit Smoking Sms Support

[Via Newstalkzb]

Eight hundred young smokers from New Zealand were enrolled in a program in which they agreed to give up smoking and received a month's free texting. Apparently, those who got spamed with ‘stop smoking’ texts quit the habit at double the rate of those who did not receive the mobile phone messages. They were sent regular personalized messages, polls and quizzes encouraging them to give up. The study authors, the University of Auckland, believe it works in two ways - by distracting young people and giving them something to do with their hands, and by supporting them. I wonder if the young who ‘enrolled’ the program were really sincere when answering the study ‘questionaires’…Were they talking about stoping smoking, uhh, forever?
