Filipino expats cautioned by embassy against SMS scam

Filipinos in Qatar have been cautioned by their embassy against falling prey to a grand text message scam which falsely informs they have won a large sum of money in a Philippines state-run lottery, run by crooks masquerading as leading personalities.
Philippine embassy officials, said, the fraudsters usually contact their prey by sending a Short Messaging System (SMS) text on their mobile phone. This message states the mobile phone owner they have won several million Philippine Pesos in a raffle draw, purportedly sponsored by the BSP, the Philippines Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Philippines Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) or other reputed organizations in the country.
